Your thoughts on spaced repetitions for learning a language

There is a method that I use a lot when studying French and Japanese and it revolves around doing many spaced repetitions. Basically what I do is I find sentences in both languages that are examples of grammar points that I would like to learn and put them into a memory program such as Anki. Anki then forces me to go through the sentences to see if I remember their content. I find this to be a very useful supplement to working through textbooks and speaking to others, so I was wondering how do you guys feel about doing this?

For more information about the method and the reasoning behind it go here: http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/blog/10000-sentences-why
That is were I first heard about it in a very detailed manner.

ah heres something i noticed: You don't really get results right away. Its more for long-term retention rather than short-term.
